A tangible model of you idea
Developing a new product is easier said than done. Lack of time, limited in-house knowledge, or uncertainty about the feasibility of an idea can slow down the process and increase risks. Prototyping offers a solution: it allows you to test whether an idea actually works, identify potential issues early on, and prevent costly mistakes during the product launch. On this page, we’ll tell you more about prototyping and the importance of having a partner throughout this process.

- We work with you
We don’t work for you, but with you. That you way you will stay involved and can keep control over your idea. - Personal contact
You will have direct contact with the specialists who work on realizing your idea. Spar directly with the right specialist. - Short lines
Would you like adjustments to your idea? Due to the short lines of communication we can act quickly to make it happen. - The IP is always yours
The Intellectual Property (IP) is always yours. However, we are happy to help you take care of the paperwork.
What is prototyping?
Prototyping is part of an iterative process in which you create a tangible model of a product or idea. This first version is called a prototype. The goal of prototyping is to test and refine the design before making costly investments in final production. Prototypes can be created in various ways, from simple sketches to complex, fully functional models.
Why is prototyping important?
Creating and testing prototypes is essential for validating your idea and seeing whether it works as you envisioned. Through prototyping, you can identify and resolve potential issues or errors early in the process. It also gives you the opportunity to test the user experience of your product at an early stage, ensuring that it meets the needs of your intended target audience.
What are the benefits of prototyping?
It helps you test and validate ideas: By creating a prototype, you can see whether your idea actually works and meets user needs. This can help you avoid costly mistakes later in the design process.
It improves communication: A prototype can be a powerful tool for communicating your idea to others. It helps people better understand your concept and provide meaningful feedback.
It stimulates creativity: Prototyping can be a fun and creative way to explore your ideas. It helps you discover new possibilities and improve your design.
It saves time and money: By identifying problems early in the design process, you can save both time and money in the long run.

What types of prototypes are there?
- Low-fidelity prototypes: These are simple, quick, and inexpensive prototypes, often made from paper, cardboard, or other basic materials. They are used to test the core concepts of a product.
- Mid-fidelity prototypes: These prototypes are more detailed than low-fidelity ones and may include interactive elements. They are used to test the functionality and usability of a product.
- High-fidelity prototypes: These are highly detailed prototypes that closely resemble the final product. They are used to test and finalize the design before moving into production.
The types of prototypes you ultimately use depend on your objectives and budget.
Having a prototype made
Prototyping is an essential part of the product development process. By creating prototypes, testing them continuously, and making improvements, you ensure that your product meets the needs of your target audience. However, prototyping takes time and effort, it typically takes between 1,5 and 10 years to make your idea ready for production. That’s why it’s wise to have your prototype developed by a product developer who integrates acceleration into their process. This way, you save time and ensure a high-quality product that meets the expectations and needs of your audience.
How do I select the right prototyping partner?
Nowadays, there are many partners who can help you with the development of your prototype. Fortunately, there are a few key things to keep in mind when choosing the right prototyping partner:
- Evaluate expertise and experience: Check whether the product developer has experience with projects in your industry and similar prototypes. It’s also wise to verify that they possess the necessary technical knowledge and experience.
- Assess their approach: Many product developers outline their working method on their website. Review it in advance to see if it aligns with your expectations. What does the developer do, and to what extent do they involve you in the process?
- Compare prices: Requesting a quote doesn’t commit you to anything. So, request quotes from multiple parties to compare prices and see which one fits your budget.
- Read client reviews: Read what others have to say about the prototyping partner. Also, take a look at their portfolio to get an impression of the quality they deliver.
- Schedule introductory meetings: Just like quote requests, introductory meetings are non-binding. During these conversations, you can discuss your goals and needs, and ask the product developer about their approach, experience, and team.
- Check if the partner offers more than just prototyping: It’s smart to choose a partner who can do more than just create your prototype. For instance, we can help with further product development and advise you on how to bring it to market.
A fully developed prototype in 4 steps with Beeliners
We consist of a team of experienced developers and designers who specialize in prototyping.
Together with you, we create prototypes that not only look great but are also functional and user-friendly. We do this through four key steps:
1. A detailed elaboration of your concept: Before we start developing a prototype, we put many ideas on paper together with you. We first assess these ideas for feasibility, then select the most valuable ones and develop them into a detailed concept, including a description of the features, benefits, and criteria of the intended target audience. This forms the foundation for the first prototype.
2. A-sample: From idea to first prototype: The first prototype we create at Beeliners is called the A-sample. With this version, we conduct the initial user tests to evaluate usability, effectiveness, and overall satisfaction. These tests reveal various points for improvement.
3. B-sample: Your improved prototype: Next, we refine the design based on the A-sample. In most cases, these are not major adjustments. We then test the B-sample again, focusing mainly on whether it meets market standards and safety requirements.
4. C-sample: Your prototype ready for production: The final prototype we create, the C-sample, is intended to certify the product according to the latest applicable standards. We also implement the final production-oriented optimizations to prepare the product for market launch.
